Legion Field
Lake Charles, LA

Legion Field in Lake Charles, LA is a historic minor league and negro league stadium which ties to professional baseball dating back to the 1930s.  While the stadium is still used by the local high school and amateur teams, Lake Charles Mayor Randy Roach contacted RMD about renovating the field and updating the facility to make it a point of pride in the community.

Ripken Management & Design took a visit to Lake Charles to try and get a sense of the most efficient and effective ways to renovate the stadium within the city’s budget.  What followed was a series of recommendations to update the field, lighting, amenities and seating areas, all while keeping the original atmosphere of the ballpark intact, along with some of the original wooden seating that still sits in the stadium today.  RMD integrated these recommendations into a construction package that included sketches, renderings and budget prices based on actual local pricing, not just national industry averages.  With this information, the City of Lake Charles has a comprehensive, 7 phase plan of action to turn their historical stadium into a community gem.
