In 2005, Ripken Management & Design work with Wisk to renovate Ft. Belvoir’s main baseball field (as winner of Wisk’s Get Dirty Contest). The renovation of the field included a total reconstruction of the infield, which was covered with new compost and completely graded. A 50/50 bluegrass-fescue blend sod was then installed throughout the infield. Using the same clay mix used by MLB, the pitching mound was built up to specifications and the base paths were put down. To complete the renovation the infield was rolled and covered with soil conditioner and fertilizer. Bases were then reset and a new home plate and pitching mound were installed. The complete renovation took four days. |
