Ripken Design Selected to Study NSC Baseball Complex Proposal, Northwoods League Contemplated

Baltimore, Md. – Ripken Design today announced that it has been selected to complete a two-month feasibility study for a proposed youth baseball complex in Blaine, Minnesota. Over the next two months, Ripken Design will work with CSL, International and LHB Architects, to complete the initial study and site plans that will lead to the complex being the largest youth baseball facility in the United States.

The study will examine the overall economic impact to the surrounding areas and determine the number of manageable fields, as well as programming opportunities. The report will also analyze the potential for an indoor training facility and domed practice fields, along with identifying the option to host a Collegiate Wood Bat team in the Northwoods League. Proposed sites include land currently owned by the National Sports Center located on the south side of 105th Avenue.

“The National Sports Center has been a staple in the youth sports world for over twenty years,” said Jim Arnold, Ripken Design Director of Projects. “We are excited about the opportunity to work with such a great client in order to bring baseball to what is already an impressive offering of facilities and programming.”

The National Sports Center, Blaine Economic Development Authority, Anoka County and the Minnesota Twins have each agreed to contribute towards the feasibility study. The proposed complex would also serve girls’ softball tournaments. The National Sports Center already operates the largest hockey and soccer complexes in the United States.
